Payroll/HR Coordinator

New York, NY

The NWSL office is growing to meet the demands of the changing global landscape of professional women's soccer. We are looking for individuals who desire to make an impact on the future of the sport in the United States.


Position Description

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Payroll & HR Coordinator will be responsible for supporting all accounting and financial related activities to payroll and the executed collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the NWSL players. This includes the preparation of player and league office payrolls, creating reports required to be submitted to the NWSL Player's Association ("NWSPLA") under the CBA and coordinating payments for match officials such as referees, medical observers, and match evaluators. 


Additionally, the Payroll & HR Coordinator will be responsible for working with the human resources department in coordinating benefits, providing data entry in HRIS system, assisting with employee onboarding/offboarding, recruiting, and supporting strategic initiatives within the human resource functions at the league. 


Primary Responsibilities 


Payroll

  • Prepare and process payroll for NWSL players and NWSL office staff on a biweekly basis.
  • Process match officials' payments including referee, medical observers, and match evaluators on a monthly basis. 
  • Assist NWSL players, NWSL office staff and contractors by addressing payroll related inquiries and concerns.
  • Track payroll related items in line with the CBA and create required reports to send to the NWSLPA. 
  • Prepare & post related journal entries for the payroll, match officials and CBA items. 


Human Resources

  • Administers benefits, including enrollments, changes, and terminations. Processes required documents through insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
  • Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests and provide excellent customer service. 
  • Perform orientations, onboarding, and update records with new hires.
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
  • Assists with the preparation of the performance review process.
  • Assists with recruitment and interview process. Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.


In addition to the above, assist with establishing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures and on various other projects as needed.


Qualifications 


Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, human resources, or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in payroll, human resources, or other related fields.
  • Multi-task and manage shifting priorities and deadlines, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Excel, Outlook, and Word).
  • Solid customer service skills, with the ability to compose and convey clear and concise instructions both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and assume additional responsibilities over time.
  • Delivers high quality work and executes under pressure/deadlines.
  • Maintains confidentiality. 
  • Progressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and an aptitude for innovative solutions.
  • Seeks feedback and works to incorporate the feedback going forward.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours when needed and willing to work a 3 day in-office hybrid schedule.


Preferred:

  • Knowledge of human resources processes, benefit administration and best practices.
  • Understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply them to business transactions.
  • Strong knowledge of iSolved HCM or other HRIS/HCM software.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks or other ERP system.
