National Women's Soccer League - Sporting Strategy Extern


The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is the top professional women's soccer league in the USA, with 14 teams and +300 of the best soccer players globally. In its 11th season, the league continues to grow exponentially. The NWSL is shattering all-time fan attendance records, as the #1 highest momentum sports league, with the first half of the 2023 season average game attendance up by 48%, viewership up by 21% (regular season total viewers), while our social presence soars to a 233% increase on video views across major platforms. In November 2023, the NWSL made history in announcing a 4-year deal as the biggest deal in women's professional sports with 4 new broadcast partners for the 2024 season: Amazon Prime Video, CBS, ESPN and Scripps/Ion and are creating a new Direct-To-Consumer platform.


Position Description


This role will serve as strategy support for our Chief Sporting Director. You will use your data analytics and insights to promote organizational effectiveness in the department.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Lead cross-functional projects that support NWSL long-term goals.
  • Create analytical reports for the Sporting department utilizing data.
  • Manage and organize documentation and files for the department.
  • Maintain connectivity across the internal organization and identify best working practices within the front office to drive organizational efficiencies.
  • Design workflows, materials, presentations, and reports for stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Conduct industry research and analysis.
  • Identify growth opportunities and areas for optimization.
  • Support the Chief Sporting Director with analytical insights and strategy initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 1.5+ years of professional experience, preferably at a strategy consulting firm.
  • Excellent quantitative, financial, research, modeling, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional project management skills and ability to prioritize workflow.
  • Ability to quickly identify key takeaways from conversations with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills combined with a professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Able and willing to travel as needed.

  • Passion for the sport of soccer.
  • Strong bias for action.
  • A strong understanding for the broader soccer culture and the more nuanced women's soccer culture in the United States.
  • Experience in the Sports, Entertainment, Media, and Technology sectors.


Salary: $75,000/year


Normal Hours: Fixed-Term (12 month) Full-Time, at least 40 hours /week.


NWSL salaries are contingent upon candidates' qualifications, functional business needs, and market financials.
